Smart farming in Africa
By using sensors farmers can monitor crops in real time, detect diseases at an early stage and achieve higher crop yields. This is in alignment with the 3 pillars of Climate-Smart Agriculture as defined by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO):
1. Sustainably increasing agricultural productivity and incomes.
2. Adapting and building resilience to climate change.
3. Reducing and/or removing greenhouse gasses emissions (GHGs) where possible.
Sensors can help farmers allocate resources accurately regarding crop watering, pesticide control, fertilization, seeding and harvesting.
