Research & data integration

InvenioRDM Integration

From agricultural sensor data to trusted research repositories.

ThingsCommute aims to help farmers, universities and researchers preserve and share valuable agricultural data through InvenioRDM-compatible research repositories.

Illustrative future workflow

How a future research deposit could work.

Farm Sensors → ThingsCommute → InvenioRDM Repository → Researchers & Global Reuse.

Authorized users could prepare and export selected datasets, provide the repository’s required research metadata and deposit them into a supported InvenioRDM repository. Optional preparation tools are not a required step.

Illustration of agricultural sensor data flowing from farm sensors through ThingsCommute to an InvenioRDM repository and then to researchers for potential global reuse.
Illustrative future integration. Repository deposits, access settings and reuse depend on future authorization and each repository’s configuration.

A deposit does not automatically become public. DOI assignment, preservation services and availability vary by repository and are not guaranteed by ThingsCommute.

Research, learning and reuse

Support valuable agricultural research data.

Prepare meaningful deposits

  • Select agricultural datasets that their owners have approved for sharing.
  • Describe data with repository-specific research metadata.
  • Choose appropriate access settings and reuse terms for each deposit.

Support research communities

  • Help universities and researchers find approved agricultural datasets.
  • Support research collaboration and student projects.
  • Make reuse possible where repository access policies allow it.

Two possible approaches

Choose a future deposit workflow.

Both options are planned and marked Coming Soon. Select a card to learn about its proposed steps.

These workflows are not operational. No repository credentials, API access, dataset uploads or automated deposits are implemented on this website.

Before depositing data

Requirements to plan for.

  • A ThingsCommute account with access to the relevant agricultural data.
  • Access to an InvenioRDM repository with permission to deposit records.
  • Details of the repository’s required metadata and deposit process.
  • Authorization from the dataset owner and appropriate repository access settings.
  • A DOI may be assigned if the selected repository is configured to provide one.
  • Repository hosting, storage or related services may involve costs set by the provider.

Repository policies determine whether records are restricted, shared with selected audiences or made public. Permanent preservation and worldwide availability are not guaranteed.

Guided Research Dataset Deposit

A proposed step-by-step process for selecting and depositing an approved agricultural dataset into a supported InvenioRDM repository.

Planned steps

  1. Select and export the agricultural dataset approved by its owner.
  2. Add the research metadata required by the chosen repository.
  3. Choose an authorized InvenioRDM repository.
  4. Review the record, files and access settings, then approve the deposit.

Before it can be offered

  • Confirm which data the account is allowed to select and export.
  • Agree how repository-specific metadata and access choices will be presented.
  • Establish an authorized deposit process with the repository owner.

Automated deposit · Coming Soon

Automated Research Data Deposit

A proposed integration for repeatable deposits using the InvenioRDM API and authorized repository access. No connection or automated deposit is currently available.

Planned capabilities

  • Configure repeatable deposits only for datasets approved for sharing.
  • Use the InvenioRDM API with repository-authorized access.
  • Apply repository metadata requirements and access policies.

Before it can be offered

  • Agree the approved data scope, deposit frequency and repository requirements.
  • Arrange and review authorized API access with the repository administrator.
  • Define how records are checked, corrected, restricted or withdrawn.
