Research & data integration

JupyterLab & JupyterHub Integration

Turning agricultural sensor data into research, analysis and discovery.

JupyterLab provides an interactive environment for working with data, Python notebooks, visualizations and models. JupyterHub allows an organization to provide managed Jupyter environments for multiple users.

Illustrative future workflow

A workspace for agricultural research and analysis.

Farm Sensors → ThingsCommute → JupyterLab / JupyterHub → Agricultural Research & Analysis.

Authorized researchers and students could export permitted ThingsCommute datasets for analysis in Jupyter. Supported formats may include CSV and JSON; other formats or API access depend on future implementation.

Illustrative future integration. ThingsCommute does not currently provide hosted JupyterHub workspaces, notebook execution or connected data access.

Tools for analysis and discovery

Explore data with the right workspace for your research.

JupyterLab

An interactive environment for working with data, writing Python notebooks, creating visualizations and exploring models.

JupyterHub

A way for an organization to provide managed Jupyter environments to multiple users, subject to its own configuration and hosting.

JupyterLab and JupyterHub are open-source tools. Hosting, managed services and compute resources may involve costs.

Two possible approaches

Choose a future research workflow.

Both options are planned and marked Coming Soon. Select a card to read about the proposed workflow.

These capabilities are not operational. No notebook execution, API connection, authentication or automated data access is provided by this website.

Before using a research workspace

Requirements to plan for.

  • A ThingsCommute account with access to the relevant datasets.
  • A JupyterLab installation or access to a hosted Jupyter environment.
  • Python or notebook skills suited to the planned analysis.
  • Appropriate permissions for accessing and sharing the selected data.
  • Hosting or compute resources, which may involve costs.

Download and analyse · Coming Soon

Download & Analyse

A proposed file-based workflow for students and individual researchers to work with permitted agricultural data in their own JupyterLab environment.

Planned steps

  1. Export an agricultural dataset that the user is authorized to access.
  2. Open the file in JupyterLab.
  3. Explore the data with Python, charts and notebooks.
  4. Share findings only according to the data owner’s permissions.

Formats and preparation

  • CSV and JSON may be supported in a future export workflow.
  • Other file formats depend on future implementation.
  • Researchers provide their own Jupyter installation or hosted workspace.

Connected workspace · Coming Soon

Connected Research Workspace

A possible future option for authorized data access from a research environment, including institution-managed JupyterHub where configured.

Potential capabilities

  • Plan authenticated access to permitted data from a Jupyter environment.
  • Consider institution-managed JupyterHub when its administrator supports the setup.
  • Support collaborative research workflows where configured.

Before it can be offered

  • Agree which datasets each researcher is authorized to access.
  • Review any future authentication and data-sharing arrangements.
  • Confirm the institution’s workspace, hosting and compute requirements.
